On the accuracy of TIGER-type geocoded address data in relation to cadastral and census areal units

چکیده
In many applications of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) a common task is the conversion of addresses into grid coordinates. In many countries this is usually accomplished using address range TIGER-type les in conjunction with geocoding packages within a GIS. Improvements in GIS functionality and the storage capacity of large databases mean that the spatial investigation of data at the individual address level is now commonly performed. This process relies on the accuracy of the geocoding mechanism and this paper examines this accuracy in relation to cadastral records and census tracts. Results from a study of over 20 000 addresses in Sydney, Australia, using a TIGER-type geocoding process suggest that 5–7.5% (depending on geocoding method) of addresses may be misallocated to census tracts, and more than 50% may be given coordinates within the land parcel of a diŒerent property.

Deriving Spatially Refined Consistent Small Area Estimates over Time Using Cadastral Data
Areal interpolation is the process of transferring data collected over source zones to target zones. One of the applications of areal interpolation is to construct temporally consistent areal units for comparing socioeconomic data over time. Dasymetric modeling is the process of employing ancillary data to spatially refine the distribution of socioeconomic variables. In this paper, three areal ...
متن کاملCadastral-based expert dasymetric system (CEDS) using census and parcel data
Population censuses are commonly aggregated and mapped as uniformly distributed areal units. This leads to generalization of geographical patterns where occupied land is indistinguishable from unoccupied land. Many applications, including demographic profiling, calculation of vulnerable populations requiring access to healthcare, and electoral districting can be measured more precisely if carto...
متن کاملMapping Population Distribution in the Urban Environment: The Cadastral-based Expert Dasymetric System (CEDS)
This paper discusses the importance of determining an accurate depiction of total population and specific sub-population distribution for urban areas in order to develop an improved “denominator,” which would enable the calculation of more correct rates in GIS analyses involving public health, crime, and urban environmental planning. Rather than using data aggregated by arbitrary administrative...
متن کاملPositional Accuracy of TIGER 2000 and 2009 Road Networks
The Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER) data are an essential part of the US Census and represent a critical element in the nation’s spatial data infrastructure. TIGER data for the year 2000, however, are of limited positional accuracy and were deemed of insufficient quality to support the 2010 Census. In response the US Census Bureau embarked on the MAF/TIGER A...
متن کاملSimulation of Smoke Emission from Fires in High-Rise Buildings Using the 3D Model Generated from 2-Dimensional Cadastral Data
Having a 3-Dimensional model of high-rise buildings can be used in disaster management such as fire cases to reduce casualties. The fundamental dilemma in 3D building modeling is the unavailability of suitable data sources. However, available cadastral 2D maps could be used as low-cost and attainable resources for 3D building modeling. Smoke will be a great threat to people's health during a f...
